A two-bar beam is a type of graded rolled metal, which has a cross section in the form of the letter "H". The main function of I-beams is the reception and distribution of vertical and horizontal loads that create separate parts of the structure, their distribution into supporting elements. This is one of the most common metal products, which has found wide application in housing construction, industrial construction, ship-car- and machine-tool construction, during erection bridges and other structures. The main advantage is high rigidity along the vertical axis, which is provided by the parallel faces of the shelves.

They are produced both in Ukraine and abroad. Recently, double-beams manufactured according to European regulations have become more popular:

• EN10034;
• EN10365;
• EN10025;
• DIN1025.

According to these standards, these products are divided into several types.

1. Normal IPE - have parallel faces of the shelves, while their length is shorter than the total height. The beam is characterized by high structural rigidity and strength, resistance to tensile and compressive loads, is well welded and processed. Widely used for civil and industrial construction, traditional and alternative energy shipbuilding and engineering, heavy machinery and bridge construction.
   The product has many standard sizes for different load options.
2. Normal with the inclination of the internal faces of the IPN. The angle of inclination is 14°. The beam structure is strengthened, so it is able to withstand the transverse bending load.
3. Shirokopolis gables HEA, HEB, HEM. This type has parallel faces and wide shelves. This form provides increased stiffness and strength. If compared with a profile pipe, with the same cross-sectional area, a profile pipe is 30 times less rigid and 7 times less reliable than I-beams of this category. They are used in the construction of bridges and tall buildings.

The HEA beam is lighter, so it creates less load on the supporting elements. The HEM type has thickened walls and shelves, so it is more resistant to high temperatures. It is used in large-scale constructions.

All the above listed types of I-beams are produced using hot rolling technology. For this, the steel beam is heated to a certain temperature, it becomes soft and elastic, and then it is passed through the rolling mill shafts. Thanks to this production method, stronger and more reliable structures are obtained than by welding technology.

High-quality unalloyed or low-alloy structural steel of brands: S235, S275, S355 and others is used for production.
