Forgings for shipbuilding

| Преглеждания: 384 |

The shipbuilding industry covers a whole branch of heavy industry, specializing in the construction and repair of ships and ships. Naturally, such a resource-intensive industry cannot do without rolled metal products. One of its most popular types in shipbuilding are forgings. They are rough blanks, the dimensions and shape of which have minimal tolerances compared to the required part. Thus, the process of manufacturing a part from a forging is greatly simplified, and chip costs are minimized.

Company «UTMK» offers a wide range of forgings of various profiles used in shipbuilding. In our catalog you will find rolled products with round, cylindrical, square, rectangular sections. Round profiles in diameter from 170 to 800 mm are in wide demand. Cylindrical forgings are also in demand (for example, for the manufacture of pipes for mast structures, a billet with an outer diameter of 250*500 mm and an inside diameter of 150*400 mm is required). We can also produce custom-made forgings of a specific shape and profile.

Application of forgings in the shipbuilding industry

There are two methods for producing forgings: stamping and forging. The first one is more preferable if it is required to obtain a product of complex configuration with high precision of surface treatment. In addition, stamping is well suited for the production of large batches of identical parts.

Hammer (press) forging is used in cases where the material of the product must be given specific characteristics, such as ductility and elasticity. However, the surface quality of such products is somewhat lower, and the speed of manufacturing the part is not so high.

Depending on the purpose, as well as the responsibility of the part, there are 6 categories of forgings for shipbuilding:

  1. Parts subjected to light loads – handles, handwheels, non-critical flanges, etc.
  2. Mechanisms and spare parts designed for light loads, but requiring a margin of safety – lightly loaded bolts, irresponsible gears, swivel elements, brackets, bushings, etc.
  3. Elements operating under conditions of vibration and increased mechanical stress – compressor shafts, connecting rods, balancers, crossheads, tiller rods.
  4. Responsible parts designed for serious loads (including vibrational nature) – axles, rotors, stern tubes, couplings.
  5. Structural elements and fasteners operating under constant or smoothly changing high loads – anchors, swivels, eyes, connecting rods.
  6. Elements of overall forged and welded structures – towing arches, tillers, propeller shaft brackets, stems, mortars, etc.

In addition, shipbuilding forgings are divided into 18 strength classes (KP). For KP20…28, carbon steels St3, St5, St20, St45, etc. are used. For KP32…45 – low-alloyed grades 18KhGT, 20KhM, 30KhGSA, 35Kh. For KP50…100 – alloyed 12ХН3А, 18ХГТ, 30ХГСА, 35Х, 38Х2НЮА. Also in this industry, stainless steels 08X18H10, 10X17H13M2, etc. are widely used.

All forgings for shipbuilding, presented in the catalog of the company "UTMK", comply with GOST 1050-88, 8479-70, 7062-90 as well as industry standards. Contact our managers for advice and clarification of all the details of the order!
