According to external characteristics or profile, smooth and corrugated reinforcement are distinguished. Smooth is marked A1, and corrugated - A2, A3, A4 and A5, respectively.

There are three main types of profile (corrugation): ring, crescent and mixed. The ring profile was very popular in Soviet times, so it is still produced by many factories. Its western counterpart is the crescent. It is he who is provided for by modern project documentation. A mixed profile is a combination of the first two. It provides maximum rigidity of the bars, so this reinforcement belongs to the highest strength class and is marked A500.

Reinforcement can also be stressed and non-tensioned. This characteristic reflects performance. When using prestressed reinforcement, the frame is strongly stretched before being poured with concrete, and after the concrete mixture has completely dried, it is released. There are some guidelines regarding the orientation of rebars in a frame. They are usually divided into transverse and longitudinal. So, A1 does not recommend placing smooth reinforcement longitudinally - this will significantly weaken the structure. Reinforcement of this type must not be fixed by welding.

Additional information about a specific type of reinforcement can be found in the marking. You just need to be able to read it correctly. So, the letter A means that the bars are produced in a hot-rolled way, B is a characteristic for cold-formed steel, and K is for cold-rolled. The presence of the letter C in the marking indicates that the reinforcement can be processed by welding, and the letter K after the digital code means that the steel is resistant to corrosion.
